Child Saftey and Window Blinds

Recent research shows that one child dies in America from strangulation in entanglement in corded window treatments every two weeks, the oldest child being 12 years of age. These deaths occur with blinds and shades that include mini-blinds, Venetian blinds, roman shades, cellular shades, corded roll-up shades, and vertical blinds. They occur because children become entangled in inner cords when pulled down, in multiple cords held together in a tassel configuration, by cord joiners that still leave

a loop open to little hands, and even in cords that are pulled to the side and tacked up. Children can still pass by or climb on something and fall into the cord loops, loosening the locking mechanism and strangling as the cords tightens around the neck. A good solution is to choose something other than blinds for children’s rooms and to purchase child-safe window treatments for the rest of the house.
