Designing Your Dream Home Organization Tips
Lifehack has a great article on organizing work stations around your home to make your life easier.
Destination Station If you are anything like me you come home with a briefcase, coat, maybe some groceries and don’t forget the electronics iPod, mobile phone and such. Having a place to dump these things will help you not forget it on the way out. Adding a charger station will keep things ready for when you rush out the door.
If you have children in school this comes in very handy as a place to land notes and project for school.
This is also a good place to keep your evacuation kits for easy grab and go on the way out of the house.
Communication Station This is the nerve center of the home, really. This is where you leave notes to each other check and update the calendar and leave the updates from work, school, and church. I’ve seen plenty of homes with a whiteboard or old chalkboard doing this.
Administration Station The home office, this is where the mail ends up and you pay the bills. So have all your office supplies here. Paper, pens, stamps, filing cabinet,
Donation Station This is a really good idea. Rather then waiting around for a spring cleaning to find all the stuff you want to donate just have a box somewhere you can dump it. Their tip of putting a clipboard to record what was donated is great for tax purposes.
Gift and Shipping Station I don’t use anything this elaborate, mainly just an underbed storage box with all the paper, tape and scissors type stuff in it.
Education Station Even if you have no children you need to keep learning. This is the library, the quiet, well-lit place with some comfortable chairs and a good desk for doing knowledge work.
Creation Station Too often a place like this is forgotten in a home. For my children this ends up in the kitchen or on the back porch. But a separate place that can be messed up is a great idea.
