How to Use a Havahart Trap

Catch pesky animals humanely with the Havahart trap. Set your Havahart trap away from people and pets, but not under the house; you may forget about it. Try the backyard or near a water source. Note footprints in the soil, and place traps near them, preferably hidden by shade. Put a trap where you see animals congregate. Peanut butter, cat food, and marshmallows are good baits for mammals. Set the arming bar and put a tablespoon

of bait on the collection plate. Make sure the trap is on level ground in order to arm it. Wrap a towel/sheet around the width of the trap so both ends are uncovered and check the trap often. Do not leave the area where you placed the trap until the animal is caught (don’t go out of town). Catch it and free it elsewhere or transport to the local vet or humane society.
