Plan Your Heating Budget Now

It may be July right now but its certainly not too late to start planning your heating budget for that winter. Around here there are very few oil dealers even offering pre-buy that year. The few that are selling pre-buy contracts are in the high $4 range right now and very shut to $5 per gallon!

Last year the average price for a gallon of heating oil in NH was approximately $3.70. whether the $5 mark holds (which I highly doubt considering the market) that would mean a 35% increase in your heating bill by final year. whether you don’t know how many gallons you used final year that I propose you shout your local dealer and ask them. that way you can plan your budget accordingly. I have a feeling many families are going to be stuck making very tough choices that winter in order to stay warm. whether you start planning now it should help you spread out

those tough decisions starting now instead of the middle of winter when it’s really cold out.

For those of us burning propane I heard some rather promising news from my local dealer. He’s offering a pre-but right now at $2.75/gallon! It seems that at least that year the propane costs will be fairly a bit better than burning oil particularly whether you have a high efficiency boiler. whether you’re in the market for a new boiler and you’re have a tough moment deciding which fuel to choose let me know. I’ve got a free spreadsheet that allows you to compare the price per gallon, efficiency rating and BTU’s to really compare apples to apples. Send me an email and I’ll gladly give you a copy of it. whether you find it useful I’d ask that you sign up for my RSS feed or my e mail subscription so that you can get updates.
