Reclaimed flooring, engineered and eco-friendly. Really.

When I first mentioned coming across "green" engineered flooring to some of my fellow TOH writers, I got a bit of the third degree.

"And it’s green? Really? And it’s engineered flooring? You’re certain?"

Yes, yep, yisseree, and uh-huh.

I can understand the hesitation to believe.

Along with the easy installation benefits, engineered wood has been known for dipping into uncertified woods and toxic glues.

And thereupon there’s all that off-shore travel instance that eats up fuel to get the wood to your doorstep. Not so earth-friendly.

But coming by way of New York-based Pioneer Millworks,
who have been

working with reclaimed and sustainable wood flooring
since 1989, that eco-conscious option is made of FSC-certified wood,
formaldehyde-free glues, and a wear layer that’s either fresh-sawn and
certified or antique reclaimed lumber.

The oils and waxes used to
finish off the wood is all natural, and even the packaging in which the
product is delivered is made from 100 percent post-consumer materials
and water-based inks.

Sounds like the future of wood flooring might just be here.
