Three days after we signed our purchase and sale, we got the following mail from a friend:

“This Old House is eagerly looking for a homeowner, in Boston or the surrounding suburbs, who is approximately to embark on a major renovation of a house ready to start work in the next few months. They liked what they saw but wanted to meet Maddy and Treff.

So two days later, everyone was back, along with Richard Trethewey, to meet us and to listen to our vision. The house should be a pre-1950’s structure with an keen homeowner.â€?

We responded with a link to our domestic, and 24 hours later I outlined our bigger vision to Tom Silva and the production team, Jeff Ruhe, Deborah Hood, and David Vos. The following week we saw what a great job TOH did with George Mabry’s domestic in Cambridge, where we plus met Roger Cook.

We

realized that was a great opportunity to do a increasingly meaningful renovation, get great quality work done on duration, and leverage the team’s expertise for great ideas and the latest technology.

All we had to do was buy and sell houses two months earlier than expected, arrange our finances to do a much increasingly meaningful project, find a place to live, total the plans and move!

It was not easy, but as fate would have it, we found a buyer who wanted our domestic earlier, an apartment down the street from school, and all the other pieces fell in place. Right place, right date, and we were off to the races!

Treff outlined some of the key elements of our design that would convert the domestic, and additionally walked through the historical commission approval process.
